Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community by helping individuals and families to explore, grow, and thrive. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, responsibilities include providing overall leadership to membership, programs, and service delivery for the Gloucester County YMCA; staff hiring, training, and development; budget development; leadership over annual fundraising efforts; recruitment of a new Board of Managers; community outreach; and recruitment and engagement of policy and program volunteers. The Executive Director at YMCA of the Pines, Gloucester County YMCA, enthusiastically represents the YMCA of the Pines by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy, and showing commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the six character values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, courage, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Executive Director at the YMCA of the Pines, Gloucester County YMCA will need to be entrepreneurial. A successful incumbent will drive growth in existing programs and markets as well as new programs and markets. They will be highly visible in the facility and the community and will engage with members, donors, community leaders and partners.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Development of new and innovative programs that meet quality standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction to all aspects of membership and programs.
  • Build and sustain a culture of member engagement.
  • Responsible for overall program growth, evaluation and innovative experimental program efforts.
  • Responsible for the overall development of branch staff.
  • Responsible for an operational surplus, for annual budget development, monthly budget monitoring and year-end forecasts.
  • Work with volunteers in financial development and community partnerships.
  • Responsible for the development and operation of Board of Managers.
  • Direct the development and implementation of branch strategic planning process, which incorporates volunteer and staff involvement.
  • Provide responsible and effective stewardship of financial resources.
  • Develop a culture of philanthropy within the branch among staff and members.
  • Work within the community to develop, steward, and engage donors and supports of the branch.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of exceptional customer service and safety among staff.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years of management level experience, or comparable experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or similar preferred.
  • YMCA Multi-Team or Branch Leader Certification preferred. Those without certification will be required to obtain it within a reasonable amount of time in which annual progress is made towards certification status.
  • Passionate commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of operations including effective staff supervision and development, successful membership practices, quality program development and implementation, volunteerism, financial development and facility management.
  • Ability to relate to diverse groups of people from all socioeconomic segments of the community.
  • Ability to develop strong, positive relationships with branch volunteers, business and civic leaders, and give dynamic leadership to volunteers, staff and the community.
  • Must have the ability to exercise appropriate independent judgment to assess facts and make recommendations regarding day-to-day operational issues.
  • Must have visual, physical, and auditory ability to act swiftly in emergency situations.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, nights for board meetings and other nighttime events; weekends for open houses, summer office hours and other weekend events; and overnight trips for staff retreats.
  • Must be able to work in excess of a 40-hour week.

Posted Salary Range

USD $80,000.00 - USD $90,000.00 /Yr.
