Overview

The preschool family worker (“family worker”) is responsible for providing family support for children enrolled in the preschool partnership program between YMCA of the Pines and Medford School District. The family worker requires a basic knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices for preschool children. The family worker works in collaboration with the teaching team to provide overall family support. The family worker will also support the teaching staff and program during lunch, rest, and prep periods.

 

SCHEDULE AND LOCATION:
• 1303 Stokes Road, Medford, NJ
• 35 hours/week
• Monthly staff meetings following the traditional school day
• Attendance at evening events throughout the year

Responsibilities

• Follow all Department of Children and Families regulations and guidelines;
• Assist with evaluations and testing as needed;
• Serve as resource person to the families and staff;
• Coordinate and integrate support services for children and their parents;
• Support the Preschool Intervention and Child Study Teams as needed;
• Develop opportunities for parent participation in the program;
• Communicate with and encourage children at their developmental level;
• Promote communication with parents;
• Support the director in maintaining accurate records for all students, families, and staff; and
• Support the teaching staff as needed.

Qualifications

• Elementary or Early Childhood Education Degree with Pre-K Certification' is preferred.

• First Aid and CPR certification (training provided as needed)

• Ability to pass multiple background checks, including NJ mandated Child Abuse Records Information, and Criminal History Records Information General knowledge of preschool developmental milestones;
• Ability to pass state and YMCA mandated training programs;
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed;
• Ability to organize and coordinate work;
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents;
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth;
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work; and
• Accepts and demonstrate the Y’s values. Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs.


WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Ability to work according to the school calendar utilized by the Medford Township School District, including from the hours of 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (generally);
2. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel & bend (including on the floor) for long periods of time;
3. Limited ability to take PTO/vacation time outside of school holidays;
4. Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids;
5. Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight;
6. Must be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds; and
7. Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

• 12% Retirement – The organization pays the equivalent of 12% of your salary to the YMCA retirement fund. No match is required. To be eligible, employees must complete 1,000 hours of service for two 12-month periods, beginning with their date of hire or anniversary date. The two years do not have to be consecutive. Time employed at other YMCAs is counted towards meeting eligibility.

Posted Salary Range

USD $18.00 - USD $22.00 /Hr.
